Pakistan has a remarkable history of producing some of the world’s most feared fast bowlers. From the legendary Wasim Akram, known as the Swing Ka Sultan, to the emerging talents of today, the country continues to produce young cricketers with extraordinary potential. Among these promising talents is Hasan Akhtar, a left-arm fast bowler from village 23/11-L in Tehsil Chichawatni, District Sahiwal, Punjab. At just six and a half years old, he became an internet sensation after a video of him bowling in the backyard of his home went viral on social media.

The young boy’s smooth left-arm bowling action, remarkable control, pace, and ability to swing the ball reminded cricket fans of the legendary Wasim Akram. While some fans saw glimpses of Wasim in his action, others compared his raw talent to that of Mohammad Amir.
Hasan would spend three to four hours a day practising in the courtyard of his house, repeatedly bowling at a wall and working to perfect his action. His passion for cricket was evident from an early age, and his dream was simple: to become another Wasim Akram when he grew up.
โIโve been playing cricket ever since I started school, and my favourite cricketer is Wasim,โ Hasan said when asked about the inspiration behind his love for the sport.
His father, Muhammad Akhtar, a farmer by profession, was among the first to recognise his son’s passion for bowling. Despite belonging to a village with limited opportunities for young sporting talent, Hasan continued to practise with dedication. His bowling skills were already attracting attention in his neighbourhood, where even older and bigger players were impressed by his pace and control.
For Hasan, however, the biggest dream was to learn from his hero. โIt would be my good fortune if Wasim coaches me. I would love to be coached by him,โ he said excitedly.
Hasan’s viral video quickly circulated throughout Pakistan’s cricket community. Fans marvelled at the young boy’s ability to bowl with such control, pace, and swing at such a remarkably young age.

The video also caught the attention of Wasim Akram, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask where the young bowler could be found. Recognising the extraordinary talent emerging from Pakistan’s communities, the legendary fast bowler highlighted the need to provide opportunities for children whose abilities often go unnoticed.
โWhere is this boy??? We have serious talent flowing through the veins of our nation and no platform for these kids to be discovered. Itโs time we do something about it,โ Wasim Akram wrote.

Wasim Akram later had the opportunity to spend quality time with the young sensation from Chichawatni, sharing valuable advice about the art of fast bowling. Explaining the importance of the front arm, Wasim observed that Hasan already understood how to grip the ball for both outswing and inswing.
โHe was all ears he already knows how to grip the ball for out swing and in swing. Unreal. Really enjoyed myself spending quality time with Hasan, young sensation from Chichawatni. Unbelievable skills at his age remember that he is only six and a half,โ Wasim Akram shared on X.

Following the circulation of Hasan’s viral video on social media, Muslim Hands reached out to the young bowler and his family in Chichawatni.
During the visit, the Muslim Hands team introduced the family to the organisation’s work in Pakistan and around the world, explaining its commitment to education, child development, and creating opportunities for children through sports.
Recognising Hasan’s potential and passion for cricket, Muslim Hands offered his family the opportunity to enrol him in its education system and Sports for Development Programme. Under this initiative, Muslim Hands committed to supporting his education, residence, meals, and other essential expenses, while also providing him with opportunities to develop his cricketing abilities through the Muslim Hands Cricket Academy.
During the visit to Hasan’s home, he demonstrated his bowling talent in front of the team. His left-arm pace, ability to move the ball, and impressive line and length were remarkable for a child of his age. He was also known for his ability to hit the wickets three to four times in an over.
For Muslim Hands, the opportunity was about more than discovering a talented young cricketer. It was about ensuring that a child’s potential would not be limited by his circumstances and that his sporting ambitions could progress alongside his education.

Akram’s wife, Shaniera Akram, also expressed her admiration for Hasan and the talent he displayed at such a young age.
โI had the privilege of meeting the little boy who caught my husband’s attention and took the Internet by storm, Hassan Wasim Akram 2.0 in Lahore. He is such a sweet little boy who walks taller than most kids his age because he has the talent of a superstar. If I was PCB Iโd be keeping a close eye on this youngster. Thank you to the incredible organisation Muslim Hands for looking after so many beautiful little souls in Pakistan.โ

Hasan’s journey with Muslim Hands began on 13 August 2018, when he was admitted to Class Three at Muslim Hands Educational Complex, Sohdra, Wazirabad.
Since then, the teachers and administration of Muslim Hands Educational Complex have played an important role in his education, upbringing, and overall development. Their continued efforts have helped him grow not only as a student but also as a disciplined young sportsperson. Hasan is now studying at Muslim Hands, continuing his academic journey while pursuing his passion for cricket.
His progress reflects the importance of providing children with an environment where education and sports complement one another. With access to educational facilities, guidance from teachers, and opportunities to participate in organised sports, Hasan has been able to work towards his ambitions while continuing his studies.

Hasan continues to train daily under certified coaches at the Muslim Hands โ Qalandars High Performance Centre. The centre provides him with an opportunity to refine his bowling technique, improve his consistency, and continue developing the skills that first brought him into the public spotlight.
For a young left-arm fast bowler, technical development, physical conditioning, discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure are essential to progressing in the sport. Through regular training and professional coaching, Hasan is working to transform his early promise into a stronger foundation for the future.
His journey also demonstrates why structured sports programmes are important for children from underserved communities. Talent may emerge anywhere, but without access to coaching, facilities, education, and sustained support, many promising young athletes struggle to progress beyond their local surroundings. Hasan’s story is an example of how the right support can help bridge that gap.

Hasan’s progress is no longer defined only by the viral video that introduced him to Pakistan’s cricket community. He is now demonstrating his abilities on the field through organised school cricket. In the PCB Talent Hunt Program for Schools 2026โ27, Hasan Akhtar is serving as the captain of the Muslim Hands Educational Complex cricket team. Under his leadership, the team secured four victories and went on to become District Champion. In the district final, Hasan delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking four wickets and playing a crucial role in his team’s success.

Across Pakistan, countless children possess extraordinary abilities in sports but lack access to professional coaching, suitable facilities, quality education, and the support required to develop their talents. Many remain undiscovered, just as Hasan might have remained unknown had his backyard bowling video never reached the wider cricket community. His journey reinforces an important message: every child deserves the opportunity to be somebody.
